Transport
Fast and efficient management of home-to-school and other establishment transport
One Transport provides authorities with a
comprehensive system for managing the
essential task of arranging transport to and
from school and other establishments each
day. The system saves time for authority staff
and helps ensure those who rely on free
transport get the best possible service. It can
also be used to manage adults’ social care
transport needs.
Enables access to all the information
you need from one place
One Transport enables authority staff to quickly access all the
information they need to arrange home-school transport for
children, including those who have physical disabilities or other
special educational needs. At the click of a mouse, transport
officers can find data on vehicles that will meet the specific
needs of individual children or groups. Using GIS transport
route maps can be viewed alongside details of whether
vehicles are full or have spare capacity, saving time and
enabling arrangements for home-to-school transport to be
made efficiently.
From a list of qualified drivers and escorts whose details of
training and CRB checks can be recorded, drivers can be
assigned to take responsibility for specific routes and authority
staff can provide children who may need medical care with
appropriately qualified escorts to accompany them.
Any changes to the contract details or qualifications of drivers
and escorts, or to the support a child requires on their journey
to and from school, will be immediately reflected throughout
the system, ensuring the best possible standard of care is
provided to children and their families.
Reduces workload
Time can be saved for authority staff in administering transport
arrangements and booking vehicles as existing information on
children, schools, establishments, drivers and escorts can be
drawn direct from core data in One, reducing the need to
re-key data.
Supports financial management of
school transport
Managing the financial side of the provision of school transport
is easier for authorities with One Transport. The system quickly
and accurately assesses a child’s entitlement to free school
transport through the use of geographical mapping software,
which automatically measures the distance between the child’s
home and school. Vehicle invoices and payments can be
instantly generated, with contractors’ details drawn direct
from existing data within One. Route and escort costs can be
apportioned between budget codes based on details
pre-defined by authority staff, such as VAT calculations,
supporting effective budget-planning.
One Transport will meet all the requirements of the
Education and Inspections Act 2006, which extends the
duty on local authorities to provide free transport for low-income families.
