Hearing Impairment/Visual Impairment
Supporting pupils with sensory impairment
It is vital for any authority to ensure children in the area with auditory or
visual impairment are provided with all the support they need to achieve their full potential.
The Hearing Impairment/Visual Impairment
module within One Children’s Support Services
(CSS) will assist you in your provision for
children with sensory impairment by enabling
you to maintain a complete record of the
services and equipment provided to support a
child’s learning. The system gives authority
staff access to detailed information on a child’s
impairment, allowing them to monitor a pupil’s
changing needs and ensure they are being met.
Access a wide range of information
The Hearing Impairment/Visual Impairment module enables
authority staff to maintain a complete record of the history,
nature and category of a child’s sensory difficulties so that
support workers have all the necessary background information
they need to maximise pupils’ learning opportunities and help
raise achievement.
The system also helps ensure the task of compiling data on
pupils for the British Association of Teachers of the Deaf
(BATOD) every two years, is completed efficiently as
information on children and schools can be accessed directly
from within One in the right format to complete the report.
This enables authority staff to spend less time in
administration.
Instant view of pupils’ up-to-date
sensory assessments
A standard graphical audiogram can be instantly generated
through the system, based on a child’s most recent specialist
test results. This enables authority staff to closely monitor a
pupil’s level of sensory impairment against historical data to
ensure the services and support being provided continues to
meet their needs.
Manage a complete equipment
Inventory
Hearing Impairment/Visual Impairment allows authorities to
maintain a comprehensive inventory of specialist equipment
which has been loaned or provided to individual pupils and
schools. Authority staff can enter details of the whereabouts of
modified laptops and hearing aids, for example, and keep a
record of the testing and repairs carried out on equipment to
ensure it is functioning correctly.
