Children in Employment
Protecting children in employment
Local authorities are committed to ensuring
that children involved in part-time work are
given every opportunity to achieve their full
potential. One Children in Employment
supports this aim by enabling Child
Employment Officers to track and monitor
working children and their employers quickly
and easily. It helps ensure legislation designed
to protect children in employment is being
upheld and children arrive at school fit for
lessons.
Protecting children in employment
Authorities are obliged to track and monitor children in
employment to meet the requirements of the Children and
Young Persons Act 1963, which is designed to protect the
welfare of children and young people in work. A complete and
historical record of a child’s employment can be instantly
viewed by authority staff so that employers can be monitored
to ensure they are not contravening current legislation.
The system automatically tracks a child’s working hours as
they are entered onto the system to ensure they are within
statutory guidelines.
Closely monitor the impact of
employment on children
One Children in Employment enables authority staff to access
up-to-date information on a child’s school attendance and
assessment results from One. This data helps them monitor the
effects of a child’s employment on their school life to ensure
they are attending school regularly and the work they are
engaged in is not having a negative impact on their academic
achievement.
Simple administration in the
management of working children
Many of the administrative tasks associated with tracking and
providing support for working children are made simpler for
authority staff. Existing pupil information, such as current
contact details, can be drawn direct from One, ensuring time
spent on keying in data is reduced and the risk of errors
minimised. The system automatically generates work permits at
the touch of a button, which include an up-to-date photograph of the child, helping ensure they can be identified easily
