    Curriculum Planning, Assessing and Reporting

The use of the SIMS "Classroom" modules is growing as an increasing number of schools use Curriculum Planner and Assessment Manager. The development of Assessment Reporter for Windows+ will create further demand for this suite of modules.

Working with Cogent, Capita Education Services is aiming to produce a comprehensive range of Study Units and Comment Banks that will provide schools with a basis for reviewing and developing their curriculum and achieving effective reporting to Parents.

We are anticipating that LSUs will receive an increasing number of questions from their schools about these modules and the data that can be loaded into them.

We are aware that this is a new area of activity for many LSUs and, therefore, we are currently developing a comprehensive information pack that will enable many of the questions which schools are likely to ask to be answered.

This information pack will develop over time to provide a full explanation of how Study Units and Comment Banks can be used most effectively in schools. The main purpose will be to enable LSU staff to enter into dialogue with teachers and curriculum advisors to ensure that the schools in an LEA are achieving the optimum return from their management information system.

    We are planning to include:
    • A concise description of the National Curriculum and how the use of Study Units and Comment Banks can help schools to deliver it effectively.
    • Sample Study Units which will build over time to cover most areas of the Primary and Secondary Curriculum.
    • A glossary of curriculum terminology cross-referenced to the sample study units to provide real and meaningful examples.
    • Guidance on where to look for advice on curriculum planning, assessment and reporting.
    • Materials which LSUs will be able to use in presentations to their schools.
    • Sample data that can be installed in schools to give them a "taste" of the modules.

This pack will not replace the training that an LSU might require. It is intended to be an enhancement that will provide a template for the future development of the Classroom modules in schools.

If you have any views about this Information Pack and, in particular, items which could usefully be included, then please contact Lynne Taylor at Cogent Computer Solutions on 01926 511974.
