@UK
Our continued collaboration will focus on implementing E-procurement throughout Local Education Authorities in the UK. Organisations like NES Arnold, Step-By Step, RS Components, Heinemann, Philip Harris, Davies Sports, GLS Education, MISCO, Devon Purchasing and Herts are available through the @Schools purchasing network. Local school suppliers and local companies are also taking advantage of the benefits that @UK PLC provide to enable smaller suppliers to have cost effective e-commerce opportunities. Dudley George, Marketing Director of @Schools explains "The benefits to suppliers of being able to accept 100% accurate electronic orders straight into their computer systems are very considerable. As well as allowing schools to create orders in an easy paperless way, the effect of SIMS FMS 6.76 will be to allow suppliers to serve schools faster, keep costs down and have fewer returns" Schools can register for free with @Schools. The school administrator then sets up all authorised staff so as to have their own personal login. Using this one login and a personal password, staff can then select items from the websites of all participating suppliers. Staff can even create a 'basket' of items across many suppliers – ideal for example when equipping a new area or costing a particular project. Their suggested order (or Content Order) once created then passes automatically into the SIMS FMS system* of the school for approval by the bursar or another member of school staff, with no re-keying required at any stage. Once approved the network then transmits the order securely and instantly to all the suppliers involved. It is important to note that a growing number of LEAs are setting up specific portal websites for all the schools in their authority, offering all the advantages above but also showing lower prices where there are authority contracts in place. Schools should therefore contact their SIMS administrator or LEA before registering their individual school with @Schools. @Schools is part of @UK PLC, an organisation, connecting Health, Education and other parts of the public service with their suppliers. If your school has suppliers not yet connected to the @Schools network, why not suggest that they join and make it easier for you to order from them?
