Case studies Whether you are an existing SIMS user who wants to know how they can use SIMS more effectively or a non-SIMS user who needs more practical examples of how the product is utilised, the best place to look is in our case studies. We have examples of how schools have used SIMS to help tackle truancy, raise achievement, help pupils with special needs or improve parental involvement , and many more. See the summaries below for details. Real Time Rapport - Blatchington Mill and The Blue School The internet has most certainly changed the way we do things. So how much are schools truly taking advantage of the internet’s potential and the access that many parents have to it? All this is set to change. By September 2010, all secondary schools will need to offer parents real-time access to this information (the deadline for primary schools is 2012). A BRAVE NEW WORLD - The reforms to 14-19 education will mean significant changes to the way schools collaborate with one another. One of the key concerns for many schools in the wake of the 14-19 reforms will be how to ensure all the information relating to a child is available instantly to all their teachers and support staff, no matter where they are being taught. Along with schools in both Staffordshire and Stevenage, the Kingswood Partnership has begun to solve these issues by being involved in a pilot using technology called SIMS Partnership Xchange The North School; a 21st Century School Since September 2006, attendance at The North School has been monitored through the SIMS Attendance and Lesson Register features. Prior to this the school used an alternative attendance solution. When asked why the school moved to the SIMS solution the reasons are clear: Cornwall Primary Tracking Project The Cornwall Advisory Service has recently launched a countywide Primary Tracking Project based on SIMS Assessment Manager. In some schools in Cornwall they have personalised the assessment process to ensure that every child has access to the data held about their progress in SIMS. This gives the children ownership of their targets and acts as a basis for an informed discussion with their teachers and parents. The Primary Tracking Project is about motivating the pupils through personalised learning and assessment for learning. SIMS moves into the classroom at The Park Lane School Experienced headteacher, Val Cameron, implemented SIMS to such a high standard at her previous school that it became a SIMS Partnership School. In April 2007, Val took on a new headship at The Park Lane School, Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. Here we find out why she feels implementing SIMS is so important to the school’s future success. Devon schools get pupil data available anytime, anywhere Devon County Council understood that many teachers felt their lives would be easier if they could record test results when it suited them or even write reports from the comfort of their own home. Devon County Council provided their schools with SIMS Learning Gateway, a secure, single online space that allows access into the school’s SIMS system from any PC connected to the internet. |
